Guide to Selecting the Correct Static Mixer for your Machine, Application & Adhesive

Selecting the correct static mixer for you application is crucial, the incorrect choice will result in a poor mix and rejected parts and an over spec mixer will waste adhesive.

We are more than happy to help with selection but here is a basic guide to get you started.

Generally if you are mixing two materials that are very similar in viscosity and ratio you can select a shorter mixer as the mixing process is easier.

But if your two materials are very different then a longer mixer is needed. The mixer diameter is defined by the back pressure needed for mixing and the flow the machine is generating.

The material itself also maters, Acrylics and Epoxies will have different characteristics than Silicone or Polyurethane and will behave in a different way.

It is always important to choose the higher number of elements if one of two things occur:-

  • Material A & B are of very different viscosity.
  • Material A & B are very wide in mix ratio (i.e. 4:1 or greater for certain fluids).

Select the Best Static Mixer Based on Viscosity

Identifying the viscosity of the materials you are dispensing will help determine the diameter required. In general if material A and Material B are both low-viscosity fluids, you can use a mixer with a smaller diameter as they require less mixing. For thicker materials you will needed a larger diameter to see good results.
